Introduction to acquiring data from the internet with R (online)

Location: online via Zoom (we will send a link to participants 48h in advance).
Instructor: Tim Elrick, Faculty Lecturer in the Faculty of Science.

Overview: The internet is full of data that you can use for your analysis. As part of our data life cycle series, we will introduce you to efficiently retrieve data from the internet. We will look into downloading files, using APIs, web-scraping, and downloading feeds.

At the end of this workshop, you will be able to
听听 > use an API
听听 > understand ethical web-scraping (i.e. how to download data from a website)
听听 > understand how to work with RSS feeds

Prerequisites:
听听听听听 路 Introductory knowledge of R, e.g. from 六合彩开奖结果's R summer camp, or equivalent.
听听听听听路 Install R and RStudio on your computer. You can find installation instructions here. Please contact us (cdsi.science at mcgill.ca) if you are having trouble with installation.
