Each fellowship recipient will receive funding for up to two years of study. The first fellowship will be awarded in the fall of 2014.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) is one of the world鈥檚 leading international philanthropic organizations, providing grants to nonprofit organizations around the world in the areas of arts and culture, education, health and medicine, and social welfare, since the commencement of its grantmaking activities, in 1996.
This gift was timed in part to celebrate 70 years of relations between Greece and Canada, and continues the SNF鈥檚 strong tradition of supporting and collaborating with Canadian universities. Mr. Robert Peck, Canada鈥檚 Ambassador to Greece, played a crucial role in initiating the conversation about the establishment of a series of scholarships at Canadian universities, and in making them a reality.

The Foundation鈥檚 largest single gift of $796 million (鈧�566 million) is the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), in Athens. Construction works at the site have already begun. The Stavros Niarchos Foundation firmly believes that the project is of national importance, even more so under the current socio-economic conditions. It remains a testament to the country鈥檚 future, at a critical historical juncture. It is also an engine of short- to mid-term economic stimulus, which is essential under the current circumstances.
