Anthony, Morin-Boucher named athletes of week

MONTREAL – Sean Anthony of Vancouver, B.C., and Alexandra Morin-Boucher of St. Gabrel de Brandon, Que., are the ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û University athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 26, 2008.

Anthony, a 6-foot-4 power forward with the men’s basketball team, was voted tourney MVP after leading ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û to a three-game sweep of the Jack Donohue Memorial Tip-off Classic in Ottawa last weekend. The 22-year-old physical education senior racked up 73 points, 31 rebounds, nine steals and six assists in three games.

He shot an impressive 56.3 per cent from the floor (27 of 48), 46. 2 from three-point range (6 of 13) and 72.2 from the foul line (13 of 18). Anthony, a three-time conference all-star, joined the Redmen in 2004 out of St. George’s high school in Vancouver.

Morin-Boucher, a 5-foot-6 forward on the women’s soccer team, led ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û to a pair of victories last weekend that clinched a playoff berth for the Martlets. She scored two goals, assisted on another and created two additional scoring scenarios which resulted in a pair of penalty shots goals by ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û. 

The 19-year-old physical education freshman scored the game-winner in a 1-0 victory at Bishop’s last Friday, then was involved in all four goals of a 4-0 win at Concordia on Sunday. Morin-Boucher, who tied for the team scoring lead with six goals in 14 games, enrolled at ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û this fall after graduating from College de Lanaudiere a Joliette.
