HANOVER, N.H. – Junior Amanda Trunzo of Andover, Minn., scored twice and set up another as the Dartmouth College Big Green surprised ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û 4-2, in exhibition women's hockey on Friday afternoon.

Ìý

Dartmouth, ranked third behind St. Lawrence and Harvard in an ECAC coaches preseason poll, opened the scoring early in the first period on the power play as senior Jenna Cunningham of Medicine Hat, Alta., beat ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û goaltender Gabrielle Smith at 2:35.

Ìý

The Big Green increased the lead to 2-0 late in the period when senior Sarah Parsons pounced on a rebound and hooked the puck around Smith, who had fallen on the play, at 15:55.

Ìý

ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û, the top-ranked team in Canada, narrowed the gap less than two minutes later, when freshman Kim Ton-That of Vaudreuil-Dorion, Que., found an open Jordanna Peroff of Keswick, Ont., who she beat veteran Mariel Lacina of London, Ont., between the pads.

Ìý

The Martlets evened the score at 2-2 before the second period was four minutes old. Victoria Wells, a junior from Oshawa, Ont., took a pass from her sister Alexandra and beat Lacina to the far post.

Ìý

Dartmouth went back on top two minutes later as Parsons and Trunzo teamed up again. Parsons broke into the zone and found a wide-open Trunzo at the far post and she converted the pass with what proved to be the game-winner at 5:42 of the final stanza.

Ìý

Trunzo added an empty-netter with 39 seconds remaining.

Ìý

The Big Green held a decisive 40-15 margin in shots and went 1-for-4 on the power play, while ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û was held scoreless on four opportunities with the extra skater.

Ìý

Lacina, started in net and made eight saves in 32 minutes to receive credit for the victory. She was spelled mid-way through the contest by freshman Whitney Woodcox of Oshawa, Ont., who kicked aside all five shots she faced.

Ìý

Smith made 35 saves in a losing cause for the Martlets, who dropped to 5-2 against women's teams overall, including a 3-2 record against NCAA squads. ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û will play Harvard in Cambridge, Mass., Saturday.

Dartmouth opens its 2009-10 regular season next weekend as the Big Green heads south for a weekend of games against Cornell and Colgate. Dartmouth plays Cornell at 3 p.m. on Friday, followed by another early game at Colgate at 3 p.m.
