MONTREAL - Rookie M茅lodie Daoust of Valleyfield, Que., potted a pair of goals and set up another as the No.2-ranked 六合彩开奖结果 Martlets coasted to a 5-1 victory over the Montreal Carabins in the opener of the RSEQ women's hockey conference best-of-three final playoff series at CEPSUM arena, Wednesday.

The Martlets, who improved to 20-1 lifetime against UdeM, had a 34-19 edge in shots, including a 16-4 margin in the first period.

"It was an all-round good effort," said Peter Smith, head coach of the Martlets. "Our puck movement was very good in the first period. We got away from our game for 5-6 minutes in the second but made the adjustments. All in all, it was a solid performance."

Daoust, who is on a torrid pace with 10 points, including four goals in four post-season contests, scored twice before the game was seven minutes old, chasing Carabins starting netminder Elodie Rousseau-Sirois.

"Daoust is so smooth and deceptively fast," noted Smith.听 "Her skating has improved so much over the year. She had a couple of flaws in her mechanics but we worked hard on her agility and its made a big difference. She had a good flow going tonight despite losing a pretty good linemate (injured Katia Clment Heydra) but young Logan (Murray) stepped in and did well."

Clment-Heydra, a high-scoring sophomore from St. Bruno, Que., will miss the remainder of the season after suffering injuries to her left arm and leg in the semifinal series clinching win over Ottawa last Friday. Video replays appeared to indicate that she was slew-footed from behind, then hammerred into the boards by Carley Porcellato, a 5-foot-11 rearguard with the Gee-Gees, who received a bodychecking major and game misconduct on the play. Cl茅ment-Heydra finished third in the conference scoring race with an 18-14-32 record in 20 games but was inexplicably overlooked by the coaches in voting for the league all-star team.

The Martlets took a commanding 4-0 lead in the middle frame when听 Stephanie Pohlod, a chemical engineering freshman from Calgary, Alta., scored her first career marker, at 7:38, followed by senior Ann-Sophie Bettez of Sept-Iles, Que., at 17:24.

The Carabins spoiled Charline Labont's bid for a shutout when Janique Duval scored with with 5:03 remaining in the game.

The Martlets can win the RSEQ banner and the accompanying Ed Enos trophy for the seventh straight season on Friday when they host Game 2 of the series at McConnell Arena in a 7 p.m. start. If a third contest is needed, it is slated for Sunday at 2 p.m., also at McConnell.

MARTLET MURMURS: Friday's contest could be the last game ever at McConnell Arena for a half-dozen graduating Martlets, including fifth-year vets Cathy Chartrand, Jordanna Peroff, Ann-Sophie Bettez and Charline Labont, plus seniors Stacie Tardif and Lainie Smith.
