ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û's Moose wins Quebec's weekly honour

MONTREAL – ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û basketball player Moustafa El Zanaty of Montreal has been named along with volleyball player Laeticia Tchoualack of the Montreal Carabins as the Quebec university athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 25, 2009.

El Zanaty, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound guard, had 61 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists and eight steals as ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û split their two-game series with Bishop’s last weekend.

The 26-year-old finance and treasury senior shot an impressive 47.6 per cent from the floor (20/42), 37.5 from three-point range (6/16) and a stellar 78.9 from the foul-line (15/19).

In an 87-66 victory at Bishop’s last Friday, he racked up 35 points, six rebounds and nine assists.

El Zanaty, a transfer from Fresno Pacific University, is a graduate of Champlain College in St. Lambert, Que.

It marks the sixth Quebec weekly conference selection of the season for ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û athletes. The list of previous recipients includes and Martlet forward Ann-Sophie Bettez, who was named three times (Jan. 19/09, Nov. 19/08 and Oct. 21/08). Other ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û picks include Martlet rearguard Cathy Chartrand (Jan. 6, 2009) and Redmen goaltender Danny Mireault (Nov. 18. 2008).

Tchoualack, a native of Paris, France, had 38 kills, 17 digs, a pair of aces and four blocks in a pair of victories over ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û and Sherbrooke.
