MUHC and city of Montreal reach agreement on Glen Campus infrastructure

Published: 15 November 2007

The 六合彩开奖结果 Health Centre (MUHC) welcomed today鈥檚 announcement by the City of Montreal, which confirmed that an agreement had been reached on the sharing of infrastructure expenses and responsibilities related to the construction of the Glen Campus. The agreement includes a list of projects valued at $59.5M and a governance structure for their realization.

The governance structure includes three key components: 1) the creation of a project office, which will be managed by the City of Montreal; 2) the creation of a Steering Committee, whose representatives from the MUHC, the City and the Office of the Executive Director of the Modernization of Montreal鈥檚 University Hospitals will oversee project management, will have equal say in the decision-making process and will be responsible for providing strategic direction to the project office鈥檚 team; and 3) the setting of a financial platform and the provision of a monetary reserve for inflation to ensure the budget is respected.

鈥淲e are pleased that this agreement recognizes that the MUHC will play a vital role in the City鈥檚 drive to ensure its success in the knowledge economy both at home and abroad,鈥 stated Dr. Arthur T. Porter, MUHC Director General and CEO. By helping finance and carry out important infrastructure projects through a centralized project office, the Glen Campus鈥 urban integration and access will also be assured within the allocated budget. It鈥檚 a win-win situation for the entire community.鈥

The vast majority of infrastructure projects will be financed and carried out jointly. However, some will be assumed in full by the MUHC while others in full by the City given each party鈥檚 area of responsibility. Joint projects include:

  • Refitting of the De Maisonneuve and D茅carie intersection and the opening up of De Maisonneuve to two-way traffic;
  • Widening of D茅carie Boulevard between De Maisonneuve and Saint-Jacques;
  • Refitting of the Saint-Jacques and D茅carie intersection;
  • Creation of a Saint-Jacques Street access;
  • Installation of an underpass aligned with Claremont for cyclists and pedestrians;
  • Minor refitting of three intersections on Glen Road;
  • Refitting of the Addington and De Maisonneuve intersection;
  • Refitting of Saint-Jacques and A15 North intersection;
  • Refitting of the Upper Lachine and Girouard intersection with a roundabout;
  • Linking of Upper Lachine and Crowley; and
  • Reconstruction of the CP overpass.

    鈥淭his agreement is the result of many months of close collaboration between the MUHC and the City of Montreal,鈥 added Pierre Major, Associate Director of Infrastructure Planning and Implementation, MUHC Redevelopment Project. 鈥淐redit is also due to the many citizens of Westmount and the CDN-NDG and Sud-Ouest boroughs who helped us improve the access plan presented during the 2005 public consultations.鈥

    The agreement will come into effect following approval by the Agglomeration Council at its next session at the end of November.
