MUHC eager to present its Mountain Campus plans to the community

Published: 30 April 2008

Public Consultation Process to begin on May 13, 2008

After months of working with municipal and provincial officials, the 六合彩开奖结果 Health Centre (MUHC) is pleased to have arrived at a plan for the Mountain Campus that is now ready to be presented to the community. This development project is respectful of the historic and natural borough of Mount Royal and is part of a two-campus model that has been approved by the Government of Quebec. Led by the Office de consultation publique de Montr茅al (OCPM), the information session on the Projet de r猫glement PM 08-003 will take place on May 13, 2008 at OCPM headquarters.

鈥淢ount Royal is one of our city鈥檚 jewels, as is academic medicine. The MUHC is proud that its hospitals have been a part of this heritage for nearly two hundred years,鈥 stated Dr. Arthur T. Porter, MUHC Director General and CEO. 鈥淭hat is why our planning team has worked very hard to ensure that our development project would strike the necessary balance between protecting the area around Mount Royal and putting in place what is essential to provide the healing environment our community deserves.鈥

Since 2006, the MUHC has had more than fifty meetings with the City of Montreal, including its Ville-Marie borough, Executive Committee, Comit茅 d鈥檃rchitecture et d鈥檜rbanisme, Comit茅 consultatif d鈥檜rbanisme and Conseil du patrimoine de Montr茅al, the minist猫re de la Culture et des Communications du Qu茅bec, and the Commission des biens culturels du Qu茅bec. These meetings have resulted in a project that not only conforms with the Plan de protection et de mise en valeur du mont Royal but will also enhance patient care and safety; will provide an inspiring workplace so the MUHC may attract and retain healthcare experts, teach the next generation of medical and scientific professionals and conduct invaluable research; and will reduce the ecological footprint of the MUHC.

The MUHC participated actively in the meetings that led to the Plan de protection et de mise en valeur du Mont Royal and was a signatory of the Pacte patrimonial signed by institutions adjacent to or part of Mount Royal. In addition, the MUHC formed a Liaison Committee with two key interest groups, Les Amis de la montagne and Heritage Montreal, to provide a forum for discussion and an opportunity to improve the project before it would be presented to the community at large.

The next step towards approving the Mountain Campus development is the OCPM public consultations. The schedule is as follows:

  • Information session: May 13, 2008, 7 p.m., 1550 Metcalfe, 14th floor, Montreal (Peel metro)
  • Deposit of briefs or comments: June 9, 2008, 7 p.m., 1550 Metcalfe, 14th floor, Montreal (Peel metro)

The MUHC has registered the Redevelopment Project鈥檚 Glen and Mountain campuses with the Canada Green Building Council and is seeking LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification鈥攁 benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings.

About the MUHC Redevelopment Project
