MUHC goes 'Green'

Hospital wins 'Go Green' certification at 'Le Montréal du futur' event

Spring has come to the MUHC in the form of a "Go Green" certification, which was bestowed on the institution during last week's "Le Montréal du futur" event. This accolade was given to the MUHC's Montreal General Hospital by the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Quebec. BOMA's "Go Green" is a national environmental recognition and certification program for existing commercial and institutional buildings where environmental best practices have been implemented. This is the first time a hospital has been certified.

"We were thrilled and honoured by this award," said the MUHC Director of Planning and Implementation of the Redevelopment Project, Yanai Elbaz. "It is a testimony to our dedication to provide a healthier and environmentally friendly workplace and institution so that we can continue to provide the best patient care for life."

The "Go Green" program is an initiative of the building industry, with the program designed to recognize those that have made a commitment towards environmental best practices in the operations and management of their buildings. In order to qualify for certification, the Montreal General Hospital satisfied all ten standards identified in the program criteria, including energy efficiency, recycling, waste management and maintenance.

"We are confident that we will continue with similar initiatives, and plan to request certification of all the MUHC's sites — the Royal Victoria, Montreal Neurological, Montreal Chest and Montreal Children's Hospitals — over the next few years," concluded Elbaz. "Environmental awareness is an important issue for all of us."
