The Robert Kinch Chair in Women's Health funds visiting professors

A substantial part of the funding of the position was the collective initiative of former graduates, Drs. Milton Leong and S.T. Liang, and Dr. Seang Lin Tan, Chairman of the Department and Obstetrician and Gynecologist-in-Chief of the MUHC. Upon learning of the creation of a chair in his honour, a number of Dr. Kinch's past and present students and colleagues have also donated generously, and enthusiastically, to the cause. "Currently, there are three Chairs in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Robert Kinch Chair in Women's Health will provide an ideal complement," said Dr. Tan. "It will broaden the scope and allow greater focus on issues such as prenatal medicine and issues of women's health in an aging population."
The winner of the prestigious Osler Teaching Award, Robert Kinch considers mentoring to be key. "My advice to new teachers is to get to know your students, let them teach you, keep them excited and enthusiastic. Students should be given chances to use their imagination and enthusiasm." It was with this philosophy that Dr. Leong and Dr. Liang, both practicing in Hong Kong, were driven to honour Kinch, whom Leong describes as "a wonderful teacher who cares a great deal for his patients, and who has a genuine and continued interest in the career development of his students."
The announcement of the Robert Kinch Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology will be held on Monday, October 17.
