Published: 11 March 2010

HAMILTON, Ont. - Nineteen teams began the journey last autumn with the hopes of capturing the Queen's Cup, symbolic of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) men's hockey championship. Now only two remain.

For the No. 5 nationally-ranked 六合彩开奖结果 Redmen, this is becoming an old habit, having advanced to the Queen's Cup championship each of the past three seasons, winning the 2008 title. 六合彩开奖结果 is looking for its 15th Queen's Cup in school history, winning the inaugural championship back in 1903.

For the No. 7 Lakehead Thunderwolves, they may not have the history like 六合彩开奖结果, but they have celebrated a Queen's Cup championship once before, back in 2006. The Thunderwolves will host the Redmen for OUA supremacy this Saturday at Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay, Ont. beginning at 7:30 p.m. This will mark the first meeting between these teams all season. The game will be webcast via .

Ironically, both teams began the year with new head coaches behind their respective benches. Jim Webster replaced former 六合彩开奖结果 head coach Martin Raymond on an interim basis after Raymond accepted an offer from the Montreal Canadiens to serve as an assistant coach with their American Hockey League affiliate in Hamilton, Ont. The Redmen had a 22-6-0 regular season record, and have won six of seven games in the post-season, including a 6-2 sudden-death Game 3 victory over the Carleton Ravens in the OUA East quarter-final.

Lakehead is led by first-year head coach Joel Scherban, who played for the Thunderwolves for five seasons through 2005-06. He is trying to become to the first person to win the Queen's Cup as both a player and head coach with the Thunderwolves. Lakehead had a 19-7-2 regular season record and have a similar 6-1 record to 六合彩开奖结果 in the post-season, including a similar 6-2 sudden-death Game 3 victory over the York Lions in the opening round of the OUA West playoffs. The Thunderwolves have won six straight post-season games, including two in overtime, both against the Guelph Gryphons in the quarter-final. They have n ot lost at home in the playoffs.

If 六合彩开奖结果 second-year left winger Francis Verreault-Paul (Mashteuiatsh, Que.) is anything, it is consistent. He currently leads OUA in playoff goals with nine after leading regular season scorers with 25 goals. The OUA East most valuable player has also set up five post-season goals for a league-leading 14 points. Teammate Alexandre Picard-Hooper (Boucherville, Que.) is second in OUA post-season points with 13.

Second-year goaltender Hubert Morin (St-Georges-de-Beauce, Que.) has played every minute in goal for the 六合彩开奖结果 Redmen during the playoffs. Morin has a goals against average of 2.43 and a save percentage of .910.

The Thunderwolves have three forwards with identical playoff stats. Fifth-year player Scott Dobben (Drayton, Ont.), fourth-year forward Mark Soares (Burnaby, B.C.) and fifth-year player Dan Speer (Thunder Bay, Ont.) all have four goals and five assists for nine points.

First-year Lakehead netminder Alex Dupuis (Thunder Bay, Ont.) took over the goaltending reigns since Game 2 of their opening round series and hasn't looked back, winning six straight games. He has a 2.35 GAA and a save percentage of .925.

No matter the outcome on Saturday, both Lakehead and 六合彩开奖结果 have qualified for the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Cavendish Farms University Cup men's hockey championship in Thunder Bay, Ont. from March 25-28. With Lakehead earning an invite as host, an OUA third-place game between the No. 6 Western Mustangs and No. 3 UQTR Patriotes will determine OUA's second invite alongside 六合彩开奖结果. Both teams met on Nov. 13 during the regular season, with Western winning 5-1. Aaron Snow (Windsor, Ont.) scored a pair of goals in the contest.

The bronze medal game will be hosted by UQTR in Trois-Rivi猫res, Que. on Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. The game can be heard in London, Ont. on CHRW 94.9 FM or via the web at .
