MONTREAL – Nathifa Weekes, a senior guard from Montreal, scored a game-high 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds but it was all in vain as division-leading Laval defeated the ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û Martlets in women’s university hoops action at Love Competition Hall, Friday.

Freshman Chanelle St-Amour, a Montrealer, led the Rouge et Or with 13 points.

The loss snapped a two-game win streak for the fourth-place Martlets, who had won four of their previous five contests and dropped to 5-8 in Quebec league play.

A ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û victory in Saturday's return match at Quebec City can clinch a playoff berth for the Martlets, who have a four-point lead over Concordia (3-10) with three left to play.

laval leads the Quebec league with an 11-3 record, followed by the Bishop's Gaiters (9-6) and UQAM (7-7).
