Research Group on Global Pasts Announces Works-in-Progress Workshop

As a means of enhancing our scholarly community on campus, the Lin Centre’s Research Group on Global Pasts will organize an annual workshop to showcase ongoing research aligned with the core agenda of our research group. The workshop will consist of a series of short presentations on individual case studies (texts, events, objects, monuments, etc.) followed by group discussion. We are especially eager to involve graduate students in this workshop and to that end the RGGP will offer a series of Global Pasts student stipends to support graduate research.

Professor Zarakol’s lecture was exemplary of the kind of cross-disciplinary, cross-era, cross-regional research on social and political ideas, orders and transformation that the Lin Centre seeks to encourage and promote!

Five members of the Yan P. Lin Centre and Research Group on Democracy, Space and Technology (RGDST) were one of 13 teams in the successful “Quality in Canada's Built Environment: Seeking Equity, Social Value and Sustainability” SSHRC Partnership Grant worth $2,500,000. This unprecedented grant will assure the collaboration of a total of 14 universities, 70 researchers and 68 public and private organizations from every level of government across the country.

Evan Fox-Decent and Sébastien Jodoin named Canada Research Chairs

The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce that two of its scholars have been named Canada Research Chairs. Professor Evan Fox-Decent (member of the Research Group on Constitutional Studies) has been named the Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Cosmopolitan Law and Justice, and Professor Sébastien Jodoin has been named the Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Human Rights and the Environment.

Charles Taylor, CC, GOQ, FRSC, FBA, ��ϲʿ�� BA 1952, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at ��ϲʿ��, former Professor of Political Science at ��ϲʿ��, and the only emeritus member of the Yan P. Lin Centre through its Research Group on Constitutional Studies, has been named a co-recipient of the 2019 Ratzinger Prize. The prize was endowed by former Pope Benedict XVI for scholarship in theology relating to his work.

Taylor has been previously been awarded the Kyoto Prize, the Templeton Prize, the Berggruen Prize for Philosophy, and the John W. Kluge Prize.

Samuel Bagg (RGCS) has been awarded a two-year Prize Postdoctoral Fellowship in Politics at Nuffield College, Oxford University.

RGCS: CFA Fulbright visiting chair, 2020-21

RGCS hosts a visiting Fulbright Chair for stays of one semester, extendable to up to one year. The Chair receives a stipend of $US 25,000, and is expected to be in residence at ��ϲʿ�� conducting research throughout the term of the award. The Chair will be a Fellow of RGCS during his or her stay, expected to take an active part in the Group's intellectual life, including regular participation and one presentation at the RGCS faculty and fellows workshop. There is no teaching requirement.
