"What's Informality Got to Do with It?" Audio of Professor Adelle Blackett's SOAS centenary lecture now available

On July 27, 2016, Professor Blackett presented her lecture "What's Informality got to do with it? Domestic Work, the Employment Relationship and Social Justice" at SOAS University of London.

Based on a chapter of Professor Blackett's upcoming听book听Everyday Transgressions: Domestic Workers鈥 Transnational Challenge to Labour Law, this lecture engaged with recent international standard setting seeking the transitioning of the "informal"听into the "formal" economy and听questioned the reification of the binary. Professor Blackett听particularly explored the paradox of treating domestic workers as a classic example of 鈥渋nformal employment,鈥 both from听historical and contemporary perspectives. She further argued for closer engagement with the strong pluralist normativity that surrounds the 鈥渉ome workplace鈥 as an example of how to begin to reimagine a labour law that takes representation, recognition and redistribution seriously.

In honour of the lecture's anniversary, an audio recording has听now been made .听
