What is the difference between a U0 and U1 student?

You will be in 鈥淯0" if you have been admitted听without advanced standing or with less than 24 credits of advanced standing. U0 students will automatically be registered in the Freshman / Foundation program.听

You will be in "U1" if you have been admitted with 24 or more credits of advanced standing. U1 students can declare their programs when registering for classes.听

Even if you are admitted as a U1 student, you must complete all required Foundation/Freshman requirements if you do not receive Advanced Standing credits for them.听

How do I know what to register for?

U0 students should check out the Foundation/Freshman program page for program specific recommendations and the Foundation/Freshman program planner.听

U1 students should confirm if they have any remaining Foundation/Freshman requirements and select courses according to the requirements of their programs (Interfaculty program, Major concentrations, Minor concentration, Honours/Joint Honours programs).听

You can refer to the听eCalendar听for program requirements as well as consulting departmental websites for individual program information. In addition to your degree advisor, you have program advisors for each of your programs who can provide specific information about courses, prerequisites, 听program requirements.听

How many courses should I take?

A typical full-time course load is 12-15 credits (4-5 courses) per semester. Please note that students must be registered for a minimum of 12 credits to be considered full-time.

Some basic science courses are worth 4 credits - this means that taking 4 courses can still add up to 30 or more credits for the year.听 If this is the first time you are studying in English, we strongly recommend that you take only 4 courses during your first term.
