The Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery offers a 2-year internship followed by a 4-year residency program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The program is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada. It begins on July 1 of each year.
After completion of the 2-year internship, progression to the 4-year residency program is contingent on being in good standing in the Faculty. This includes passing the Division's written, oral, and OMSITE examinations. Failure to do so will result in not being able to continue on to the 4-year certificate program.

2-year Certificate in Oral Surgery Internship
Year 1
- The first year of the internship program is designed to allow dental medicine graduates a chance to gain greater experience in dentoalveolar surgery and other oral surgical activities. The intern works closely with OMFS residents throughout the year sharing responsibilities with the junior OMFS residents.

Year 2
- The second year of the internship is a blended year with some responsibilities on the clinical OMFS service, as well as dedicated research time听and increasing responsibilities as a lecturer and clinical supervisor in the undergraduate dental medicine program. Depending on the intern's previous research background, it may include starting a MSc or PhD program.

4-year Certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Year 1
- The resident works听primarily in clinical oral and maxillofacial surgery.
- The resident also completes courses听in gross anatomy, surgical anatomy and history and physical diagnosis.
听
Year 2
- The resident performs off-service medical and surgical rotations.
- The resident rotates on different services including anesthesiology, internal medicine, general surgery, intensive care, and other electives.

Years 3 and 4
- The resident assumes increasing responsibility for the overall care of all in-patients and outpatients听in the oral and maxillofacial surgery service.
