翱苍听September 28th听at听10:00 am MDT, Dr. Emmanuel Chilanga, Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), will present his book chapter 鈥淭he Current State of Developmental Social Work Theory and Field Education in Africa: A Scoping Review.鈥�
About the Author:听
Dr. Emmanuel Chilanga听is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Northern British Columbia. He holds a PhD and a Master鈥檚 degree in social work from 六合彩开奖结果, a Master of Science degree in Geography from the University of Western Ontario and a Bachelor鈥檚 degree in Education from the University of Malawi. His primary research focuses on community organizing to examine and address the determinants of poor child and maternal health, household food insecurity, intimate partner violence, and COVID-19 community recovery strategies in Sub-Saharan Africa. He also conducts research in exploring innovative social work field education models in Canada and Africa.
Participants will be able to discuss the chapter with the author and ask questions.

Congratulations to Myriam Denov, Elected to the Academy of Social Sciences
"The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) honours new Fellows.听 Among the three new Fellows elected to the Academy of Social Sciences is Professor of Social Work and Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Children, Families and Armed Conflict,听Myriam Denov.
Her award-winning scholarship and advocacy for children and families affected by war and migration have been previously recognized with the SSHRC Insight Award and the Killam Research Fellowship. In 2015, Denov was elected a Member of the RSC鈥檚 College.听听

The 2023 Racial Justice Symposium
The first session of the 2023 Racial Justice Symposium, organized by the 六合彩开奖结果 School of Social Work in collaboration with the Canadian Race Relations Foundation. This year's symposium focuses on the theme "Do Black Lives Matter in Canada? A look at Canadian Social Work Education and Praxis".
We are thrilled to announce that the first session, entitled "(Anti) Blackness in Canada - Past and Present," will be held via Zoom on March 24th, 2023, at 11:30 AM. This session will feature esteemed guest speakers:

Dr. Wendell Nii Laryea Adjetey, and听David Grant.
This session aims to critically examine the historical and contemporary experiences of anti-Blackness in Canada and its impact on Black communities. The presenters will offer their expertise on the subject and discuss the challenges and opportunities for social work education and praxis in addressing anti-Blackness in Canada.
We believe that this session will be an excellent opportunity to deepen our understanding of racial justice and its implications for social work practice in Canada. We encourage you to join us and participate in this meaningful dialogue.

Invited Lecture by Shivani Kaushik听-听Louisiana State Penitentiary: A Textual Analysis of Correctional Staff Views on End-of-life Care
Shivani Kaushik, BA, BSW, MSSW, is a doctoral candidate in the School of Social Work at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO. Shivani obtained an MSc. in SW from Columbia University, with a concentration in Advanced Clinical Practice in Aging.
Shivani鈥檚 presentation, Louisiana State Penitentiary: A Textual Analysis of Correctional Staff Views on End-of-life Care, will reveal findings from a textual analysis of correctional staff members' views鈥� on delivering end-of-life care.

Invited Lecture by Dr. Sarah Tarshis -听Using Simulation to Train Social Workers in Trauma and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)
Dr. Sarah Tarshis is an Adjunct Professor and Researcher with the SIM Social Work Research Lab at Carleton University鈥檚 School of Social Work. Dr. Tarshis completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Carleton University (2022), received her Ph.D. from the University of Toronto Faculty of Social Work (2020), and her MSW from New York University.
Dr. Tarshis鈥� presentation, "Using Simulation to Train Social Workers in Trauma and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)," will focus on the benefits and limitations of using simulation as a research methodology and a teaching tool to help prepare social work students and new practitioners.

Invited Lecture by Jeffrey McCrossin - Facilitating Pathways of Resilience in Families of Neurodiverse Children
Jeffrey McCrossin is a Ph.D. candidate at the 六合彩开奖结果 School of Social Work, where he also completed an MSc(A) in Couple and Family Therapy (2019).
Prior to attending 六合彩开奖结果, he earned his MSW at Carleton University (2012). He worked as a clinical social worker, couple and family therapist, and psychotherapist in community mental health and neurorehabilitation settings in his home province of Nova Scotia.
Jeffrey鈥檚 presentation, Facilitating Pathways of Resilience in Families of Neurodiverse Children, will provide an overview of his program of research, highlighting an example from his most recent work on caregiver peer support.
