Message from the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Medical ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û

Assistant Dean, MDCM ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û is one of the top medical schools in North America and enjoys an international reputation for excellence in teaching, clinical training and research. In addition to ourÌýundergraduate MDCM medical degree, the ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences offers joint programs, e.g. leading to combined MD-PhD degrees.

Our MDCM program provides a unique integrated, systems-oriented, multidisciplinary approach to learning, one that offers a collegial and dynamic learning environment for students. The MDCM curriculum – Patient at heart, Science in hand remains at the forefront of medical education, serving society’s needs. Our Physicianship program, one of the most innovative of its kind, provides students with a sound foundation in the humanistic skills that are required to be an outstanding physician, with explicit linkages between the ‘science’ and the ‘ healing art’ of medicine. We aim to train doctors who are highly regarded as top professionals in the tradition of ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û.

The Undergraduate Medical ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û Office oversees the promotion and selection process for entry into the faculty, with guidance from the MDCM ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û Committee and its fourÌýsub-committees (Best Practices, MMI, Qualifying Year, and Professionalism Standards).Ìý The pool of ÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û raters who assess CVs and conduct interviews includesÌýmore than 100 members from our Faculty, representatives from the community and additional supporting committees. Our goal is to attract excellence, which means the admissions process is inherently competitive. We pursue this goal by welcoming outstanding candidates from across all communities. We administer the process within a framework of evidence-based best practices, accreditation requirements set out by Canada’s medical education authority, government decrees and programs that apply to Quebec’s medical admissions process and guiding principles developed in consultation with our admissions committees.
